This weekend and today especially, its been hot.
Its humid.
It’s sticky.
And it’s only Spring.
I’m soooo glad we have a pool ![]()
We are very lucky.
George our Beagle however has not been so lucky this weekend.
Poor George had an accident.
We were playing ball on his favourite beach at low tide with lovely smooth sand, not too many people around and the sun shining, he was having a ball! We’d been playing for half an hour already and he was very happy collecting the ball, then barking at me to throw the next one (you need two balls to play fetch with a Beagle or else he won’t bother bringing it back) and then occasionally he ran in to the sea to cool off.
Anyway, all of a sudden he yelped and started limping and hobbled straight to me and snuggled up very closely and didn’t dare move a muscle. We managed to get George back to the car by him hopping through the sand as fast as he could for a bit then him sitting and having a rest, he was really brave and didn’t moan once.
So we took him to the vet, he’s called Greg and he’s a lovely man. He said he’s sure he knows what it is, so today George was sedated for an examination and X-ray. We now know he has a cruciate ligament rupture which means he can’t put any weight on his leg and he has to have an operation. This can happen if the dog puts his weight on one leg and its well planted and he then twists it, which must have been what happened, ouch! Since all of this George has been down in the dumps, he hasn’t barked once but he has been very glad when we have arrived back home, poor thing, I had no idea such a thing could happen from playing ball, it’s his favourite game.
So George is now booked in for Wednesday, (oh I hate going to the vets but probably not as much as George) and his recovery is going to be around 6 weeks!
So that means 6 weeks of no dog walking to start with and being very gentle which mostly is not going to be any fun for George. He will not be able to wait to get back on this beach. but when we do get back on this beach there will be no ball games.
Get well soon George xxxxx
