The last few weeks have flown by with finishing unpacking, people coming to stay,  finding our way around a new place and getting into a new routine.

We’ve had fun on our new SUPs (Stand up paddle boards) splashing around on the water in the sun, I’ll blog about SUPing as soon as I can get some good pictures of me out on the water :-)

My very own SUP with limited edition wood effect and luscious flower print

We’ve also been having some quality time with our Beagle George at the beach, which George loves, except the sand is so fine his mouth and nose get covered! Also at the dog parks which he loves for some doggy play time which includes a lot of running around. And the sofa, shhhhh don’t tell anyone, as he’s a very good outdoor dog now except for sneaky evening cuddles :-)

Over these few weeks I have been thinking about what I want to do next and I seem to be settling on something in my head now which I’m very happy to be starting.

I have two ideas, both of which I have started working on and hope to see through.

1. Writing a children’s book about George and his adventures. He’s had quite a few getting here and he’s having more every day, so I should have some rich inspiration to draw from. I’m planning on making some knitted Georges and other knitted delights as a means for illustrating the book. Think ‘Spot’ the dog meets ‘The Clangers’ and ‘Curious George’ all rolled into one.

This will be an adventure, something fun, different and new which I can work on in the background where ever I am. It’s something I had never thought I would do but a lady I met in Perth said I should, and after initially dismissing it I thought, why not?

2. Carry on with my knitting which I started in the UK with Melin Maildy only under a more versatile name (not so location specific, who knows where we might be next year!) knitting wooly things for the home and lifestyle inspired by whatever inspires me.

It’s taken me  a while to come to this conclusion as I love working with wool and I wasn’t sure if there was a place for it here but I’m sure there is, especially in this sub tropical climate of Queensland where wool is the perfect fabrication to deal with the humidity. I would also love to do some printing and sewing too so this might compliment the knitting and lead into other products as people don’t wear wool in the Summer.

There are a lot of cute shops over here (especially in Brisbane) and also a lot of markets, featuring designer makers which are called ‘Indies’ here and the quality is getting pretty good although it seems like a newer trend here than in the UK, so I’m looking forward to establishing my own mark here.

There are so many new things to inspire here. I took this picture whilst taking George for a walk.

So what about a name, hmm this is the hard bit, something simple I think.

Ideas so far are:

Variations of my name - Mellie Lang (it would work along side this blog which I have been establishing for the last few years), Mel Lang, Melanie Lang

Name play offs - MeleMel, Mélange

Something related to me knitting / making – Mellies’ Knits, Mellie Makes, Mellieknitwit

If you have any ideas I would love to hear them!

Anyway, I had heaps of fun setting up Melin Maildy so I’m really happy to be starting again, I’ll be keeping everyone posted here so now I’m looking to get that yarn ball rolling :-D
