Today it’s the 1st of June which means 11 days untill my Birthday.

I’m not great at having Birthdays like having big parties and getting everyone around me to make a fuss, but when I think of past Birthdays I have some great memories. A lot of them are more like fuzzy feelings that I have stored, from music I’ve danced to, clothes I’ve worn, smells of flowers in the garden and tastes of food.
I’ll never forget when I was seven we had some school friends around for a party and I had a new peach dress which I couldn’t wait to wear with appliquéd flowers on. I wore it with blue jelly bean shoes, I can still remember the smell of the shoes and looking at my dress hanging up waiting to be worn. I can remember from BBQ parties from more recent years the smell of the BBQ burning, sticky sweet strawberries left at the bottom of Pimms glasses and cake leftovers in the fridge.

These are all little things and don’t compete with having friends and family with you on your birthday, like this year I have only one best friend and family member here with me, my Steve who is very special and has given me some of my best Birthday memories. He’s organised parties, been the DJ, cooked the sausages, mown the lawn, strimmed the hedges, booked tables, ordered champagne, given me the best presents and totally spoilt me so he is the one person I could definitely not go without.

I have loved having my Birthday in June, halfway through the year and in the summer, great for BBQ parties in the garden, strawberries and Pimms with friends but this year even my birthday has gone topsy turvey and now it will be in the winter. However I am discovering that winter in Australia is perfect. Not too hot, or too cold, just a tad in the morning or too wet, just the odd day here and there.

A good thing about Birthdays is you can treat yourself to things you really love. As I’ve gotten older I’ve realised some of the things I really love and so I have created a pin board on Pinterest to collect images of these things, take a look here.

It is yet to be finished as I’m sure I will add more and more things to it from time to time, but it makes me happy to see these lovely things all in one place as a reminder to me maybe when I need a little cheer or to anyone who might be stuck for what to give me on my Birthday

So this years Birthday will be different but even now as I’m getting older I like to enjoy the little things, so here’s to another lot of little memories being created.
