Well it’s Thursday already, it’s been raining a lot this week so I haven’t been out exploring as much as I had hoped to but the sun is now shining.
I’m beginning to get into the flow of our new life now, new house, new area, new rhythm of not working and being a lady of leisure with a few projects up her sleeve. I’ve been trying to relax and enjoy things as I am in this new place which is amazingly exciting but I’m also having strong feelings of missing my George, (my doggy) my friends and home now so I’m going to keep positive and keep looking forward.
This morning I did some nice things, I lit a jasmine incense stick which smells amazing, did some Pilates, had a bath, read my book in the bath with a cup of tea, tried to block out all other thoughts and just concentrate on only what I was doing which I find really hard.
Ordinarily at home I would have tons to do even when it’s raining like cooking, knitting, films or TV to watch, sewing, painting but here, in this house with none of my stuff I am limited, I have a pencil or two, a sketch book, 3 balls of cotton yarn, a crochet needle and my laptop.
Last week, knowing Steve was going to be away, I ordered some gouache paints, I wanted specifically process colours, those are cyan, magenta, process yellow black and white for mixing colours. I couldn’t find a set of them locally but thought I had on line on the other side of Australia.
Yesterday morning they finally arrived only they we’re not process paints but primary colours, so what followed was an email conversation about the differences between process and primary colours, “I’m not stupid you paint man!” So I managed to get into town and find now the individual tubes of colour and pay even more than necessary, oh well lesson learnt.
Before I left home (UK) I thought it would be great to make a very open lace crochet fabric to use as the back of a vest which is why I have the crochet stuff with me. I had an idea that maybe the front could be a printed cotton printed fabric or a jersey, but for the crochet back I had a little problem, I could only create chain stitch. So after buying a book which was utterly useless I found a video on line on how to make flowers, so I have made a few and I’m beginning to get into it now.
Here’s a sketch of my idea, the crochet is a bit vague on the drawing as I’m not sure how it all is going to fit together yet.
We had some great news yesterday that our shipment, did arrive last Friday and it has been through customs and quarentine and is now ready for delivery, TOMORROW, YIPEEEEE!
I have been thinking about all the things I am looking forward to getting back MOST, here’s a list:
my bike
my clothes & shoes
my sewing & knitting machines
our plates, crockery, toaster, kettle, coffee grinder, bread maker, magi mix AND my cook books, can’t wait!
our TV & films
all my books from my studio
photos to put up on the walls
If only George was packed in there too then it would properly be like home
So tomorrow there will be lots of unloading of boxes, unwrapping of things, re-assembling furniture, cleaning and a lot of arranging which I’m really looking forward to. Now when Steve comes home we will have a proper life again, phew it’s been 2 1/2 months of weirdness, so glad I can stop talking about this move now and get onto more interesting things.
Right I’m off to go for a mooch down George Street (boutique street just across the way from our road) and then I’m going to play with some colour and do some painting.

Your top design looks really pretty, and I love the colour. Im looking forward to seeing the finished piece
I can help you out on missing George…last night he stole my socks, Deans hat, Deans wallet AND the cardboard recycling…all within an hour! Teehee! He was playing up because he felt all fresh and clean after his bath, and we’d got him all playful wrestling with him in the blanket to dry him off
I think we must have had him for half the time now? I think the next half is going to fly by. Im really going to miss him when he goes. He has such a personality that I can see he’s going to leave a hole when he’s not around. He’ll be there before you know it! Make the most of your last few weeks of freedom!
Im teaching George Pips trick of guessing which hand the foods in. I think he’s getting the idea. Unfortunatley he also thinks he needs to dig the treat out of my hand! Ouch! Definately need work on doing it gently.
Im really not looking forward to saying goodbye to the cheeky chappy, but I am looking forward to seeing him on here, having new adventures in Oz
George just squeaked – he says hi, right breakfast time George!
xxxx
PS The new look blog is really pretty!
Oh yes George doesn’t like being clean, total stroppy doggy when wet! Thanks for the update, glad your knees aren’t under such stress now. Yes I hope I manage to finish the top, I used to be good at finishing projects but not so much now.
