Hiya, Mellie here, it’s been a funny ol’ time here really.

It’s all been going well,  we found and moved into our house, we’ve joined a kayak club & been kayaking, we now have a car, the dog is all sorted to come over in July, the bad news is our shipment now isn’t arriving for about another month which is pants and means we’re sort of in limbo for a bit living from suitcases still.

Steve has been working really hard already getting up at 6am and commuting back home from the city in the evening, but I am not working I’ve been rattling around this empty house. I’ve started thinking now we’re here and settled about my new project and what I am going to be working on for the next 4 years at least.

I have been taking photos and I’ve ordered some Dayler & Rowney designer gouache paints in CMYK colours to start off with some sketchbook work. I used these at Uni to mix up colours and loved the velvety feel of them and the opaque & bright colour quality so I’m looking forward to having a play with those.

pretty coloured flower petals brought down by strong winds over the weekend

This is a photo I took with my project in mind. Whilst walking down the road munching on this white peach, I noticed the gorgeous colours inside and radial colour seeping effect.

More posts about the new project shall be coming soon once it’s underway, although you might have guessed it’s going to have something to do with colours, I’m not entirely sure what it’s going to be like yet but I have a rough idea of a starting point so it’s going to be a bit of a journey.
As well as thinking about a new project, I’ve been exploring the local area by foot, our hire bikes had to go back so it has been a bit weird.

mini beach on the river bank

I sooo enjoyed cruising here on the hybrid we hired, it got me thinking that a bike specifically for cruising to the beach and the shops would be perfect. I always thought it daft to have one in Pembrokeshire with all the hills but here with the miles of coastline, hundreds of bike paths, the laid back nature of Perth a nice flat ol’ jaunt into Fremantle will be great. I’m still figuring out things like back brakes and flat foot technology but I have narrowed it down and sometime between saving up for one of these and taking a few for a test ride I will look forward to owning something like this Electra.

"townie" not such a cool name maybe

One of the first things I was going to do here was go to a Pilates class, well I haven’t quite got round to that, I have found a couple who I have contacted but I may have to do some saving first and in the meantime I have two whole rooms at least in our house right now and with a camping mat and some iPod music I’ve had some great Pilates sessions on my own so that will suffice for now.
As I shouldn’t really be spending any money right now, I stupidly went on a trip back into Perth yesterday to find some basic things I needed like some flip flops or comfy ballet flats and some light weight trousers all of which we’re expensive & rubbish quality but I accidentally found the Gorman dress I saw last week which I don’t need at all. It had been reduced to $135 instead of $299 so I had to get that because it is gorgeous, its great value for a silk dress and fits like dream flattering all my best bits. Now that’s my spending done now for this month, the rest is going into the bike fund.

Aztec patterned dress, ideal for Autumn

This morning my Steve went off the the airport for a work trip so getting stuck into a new project is going to really help me over the next month until the shipment arrives and whilst Steve is working. Ok I’m off to make myself some pasta now and then off to bed early so I can get up with the birds and go for a jog around the block in the morning.

See you soon xx
